Functionality through Nonlinearity

A community exploring soft structures and nonlinear-based functionalities

Welcome to our community!

We are a collective of researchers exploring the fascinating world of soft, highly deformable structures that render function from structural non-linearities.

Our goal is to create a space for knowledge-sharing and collaboration, where latest research and early ideas can be shared with ease, and without artificial restrictions.

FTN 2026 conference

We are happy to announce that the Functionality through Nonlinearity (FTN) conference will be back in 2026!

When? June 18-19, 2026
Where? KU Leuven, Belgium

The conference program is now complete and registrations are open. As with the inaugural edition of the conference, attendance is once again free-to-attend.

FTN 2025: a free-to-attend conference for people that like nonlinearities

The inaugural edition of the Functionality through Nonlinearity (FTN) conference took place at King’s College London on June 19–20, 2025. We were delighted to welcome over 140 participants who presented their work on soft, highly deformable structures. Most notably, we were proud to offer this event free of registration fees.
